"moon musick" was originally supposed to become a cd album that was to be included with an illustrated picture book for children, conceived by my wife -- funny as it sounds, the idea was to play back the music in the background while mummy would be reading out the story to the kids around bedtime, or have the children fall asleep to the music. it harks back to something markus reuter once remarked so aptly, "i don't get it why children are treated as if they were dumb and couldn't listen to more sophisticated music, and be appreciative of it".

markus' touch-guitar work was also playing a role in this project, and "moon musick phase three" is based around some heavily looped textural work he created on his guitar, and then heavily processed and abused by me (with some little embellishments from the rhodes piano).

as you may have guessed by now, the original enterprise was shelved because printing even a small volume of picture books turned out to be too expensive -- and the book market is a shark tank, like music business..

when digitising a heap of old dat tapes, i came across these recordings which date back to about 2006/07 -- i really enjoyed listening to them (which rarely happens with my own stuff), and i decided to remix the individual tracks slightly. to enhance the overall dreamy setting, i added some ambient field recordings to them which would shift gently from sitting by the lakeside to the dunes at night (with crickets), then surf and distant thunder (i have a penchant for thunderstorms).

of course, the title was inspired by a line from coil's "are you shivering": "this is moon musick / in the light of the moon".

Stephen Parsick, born in Moers/Germany in 1972, got in touch with electronic music when he was still in his toddler days. From 1983 to 1990 he took musical lessons in his hometown. In 1996, he founded his own band ['ramp]:
