about

the music on this album was recorded inside oberhausen gasometer on 18th december 2010, the final day of the "european capital of culture" celebrations in germany's industrial heartland, the ruhr district.

it was freezing cold inside the gasometer as temperatures had been well below zero for some weeks by then. all electronic devices miraculously survived the five degrees below zero, though.

originally planned as a real concert with real instruments on stage, weather conditions forced me to prepare the music in advance and reduce the live set to a minimum. i just played back the textural ambient work i had recorded at home through a small pa system. binaural microphones ("dummy heads") were then used to capture the room ambience inside the gasometer and recorded onto four tracks of my old harddisc recorder, the other four containing drones, heavily processed field recordings, and textural ambient sound.

the recordings here are a combination of the ambient sound picked up through microphones, combined with the signal straight from the mixing desk.

best listened to through headphones.
