about

recorded between 1994 and 1997, issued in 1998 for the first time, reduxed and remastered between 2005 and 2007.

for recording this album, the novatron mark 5, originally owned by edgar froese, as well as the mellotron m-400, originally owned by peter baumann, were used. the novatron was stuffed with klaus schulze's original choir tapesets. the m-400 sported chris franke's original three violins/cello/flute tapeset... now i'm showing off a bit, i suppose.

contains three bonus tracks which were not included with the first release from 1998. "hydra" was recorded in early 1996, "the keeper of time" dates back to 1994, and the backing track to "ashram" was recorded as early as september 1996 during the "close beneath the surface" sessions. i finally finished it off in july 2005.

this download version comes with the previously unreleased little gem "delhi disco" which klaus and i performed when warming up to record "close beneath the surface" -- the similar bloodline is fairly obvious but thanks to klaus playing the pe-1000 the way he would play his mellotron, the track gets a slightly oriental flavour.
